A large fight that occurred early Wednesday evening in East Penn Township and involved up to 20 people remains under investigation.

At about 6:22 p.m., the township's police department was dispatched to the area of Lizard Creek Road and South Kittatinny Road for a large fight in progress. It was reported that a firearm was involved in the fight.

Palmerton police responded to the scene, and upon their arrival, all individuals fled the area on foot. Palmerton police then initiated a foot chase on multiple suspects.

With the assistance of Franklin Township Police, Mahoning Township Police, and state police at Lehighton, a total of nine individuals, juveniles and adults, were arrested at the scene.

East Penn Township Sgt. Al Beishline said the incident is believed to have stemmed from a problem between two juveniles that involved an ex-girlfriend of one of the juveniles.

The incident remains under investigation, and charges are pending against numerous individuals.
