Firefighters from American Hose Company #1 in Tamaqua check the smoldering remains of a small brush fire which broke out in the borough's east end early Thursday evening. The fire, which was quickly contained, was located approximately 50 yards south of the East End Playground at S. Columbia St. and Mountain Ave and burned an area approximately 600 square feet in size. It was unknown what caused the fire and it was still under investigation late last night. Responding to the fire, in addition to American Hose Co., were the South Ward Fire Company Forest Fire Unit, and members of the Pennsylvania Bureau of Forestry, Locust Valley Fire Control Station.
