In other action, Lehighton edged Tamaqua in tennis while Northwestern and Marian both posted sweeps on the track.

Pleasant Valley erupted for a 13-run first inning to run away with a 15-0 Mountain Valley Conference victory over ES North.

Travis Raseley led the Bears with two singles, two runs scored and four RBIs, while Tim Shea added a single, double, a run scored and two RBIs.

Jake Chamberlain recorded a double, two runs scored, two walks and three RBIs, while Derrik Walling posted the Bears' lone homerun with a three-run blast in the prolific first.

The Timberwolves' Romano's double in the bottom of the first was the lone hit surrendered by Bears' pitchers Alex Jimenez and Jimmy Beidleman.

Panther Valley used the strength of a 16-run fifth inning to cruise to a 26-0 non-conference victory over Columbia-Montour Vo-Tech.

The Panthers (5-0 overall) got the best of Rams' pitching as Zach Stanko (three-run), Kyle McAvoy (two-run) and Mike Hadesty (grand slam) all connected for homeruns in the game.

Stanko paced the Panthers with two singles, a homerun, three runs scored and four RBIs, while Brandon Gurka followed with two singles, a double, three runs scored and three runs batted in.

David Marouchoc had a big game for PV with two singles, three runs scored and two RBIs, while Steve Gulla chipped in with a single, double and two RBIs.

Kory Lopata (two singles, two runs scored, RBI) and Greg Pecha (two singles, run scored, RBI) chipped in on the Panthers' scoring brigade.

Lehighton opened Mountain Valley Conference play by dropping a heartbreaker of a 4-3 setback to Pocono Mountain East.

Regardless of the setback, catcher Jacen Nalesnik kept the Indians within reach of a win by crushing two homeruns on the day. Nalesnik drilled a two-run dinger in the third inning and later delivered a solo shot in the sixth.

Matt Gallagher sparked the Cardinals' with a 2-for-3 performance, which included a double, triple and two RBIs. Rob Pecci, who notched the win on the mound, finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Palisades-Northwestern

Northwestern swept up in its Colonial League track meet with Palisades Thursday afternoon.

Joe Hall led the Northwestern boys to a 97-53 victory by winning all four events he competed in. He took first in the high jump, shot put, discus and javelin. Also winning multiple events for the boys were Tim East (110 and 300 hurdles) and Tyler Stelmack (800M and 1600M).

The Lady Tigers also won by a score of 81.5-68.5. Three girls won two events. Lindsay Kerr won the 400M and 800M races, while Ramzy Burns finished first in the 1600M and the 3200M endurance races. Sarah Murray won two field events (shot put and javelin) as well.

Palmerton ended up splitting in a Colonial League showdown with Wilson yesterday.

The Bombers earned a 95-55 victory on the girls' side, while the Warriors posted a 93-57 win on the boys' end.

Palmerton's Lanny Buck broke a long-standing school pole vault record with his 15-foot jump, eclipsing the previous mark of 14-3 , set by Dennis Lentz in 1977.

The Bombers' Wynnie Green (200, 400), Andrea Stevko (1600, 3200), Kristen Romano (100H, 300H) and Kelsey Hall (shot put, javelin) all ended up multiple winners.

Marian pulled out two close ones in its Schuylkill League meet with Pine Grove, winning 76-65 on the girls' side and 81-60 on the boys' side.

No Fillie won more than one event. However, Devin Parambo managed to win the long jump and come in second in both the 100M and 200M dashes. Teammate Corrine Markiewicz did the same. She won the 1600M run and finished second in the 800M and the long jump.

Paul Martin accomplished the same feat as his lady teammates. He won the 400M run and was the runner-up in both the 100M and 200M dashes.

Sammi Pryor knocked in Timmi Fiske with the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning as Northern Lehigh edged Northwestern, 4-3.

Fiske also added a spectacular run-saving catch in the top of the eighth for the Bulldogs (2-1) while Kelsey Hosford chipped in two RBIs.

Janel Park was the winning pitcher.

Parker David tossed a complete game and struck out nine to lead Lehighton to a 12-6 victory over Pocono Mountain East.

Darren Wanamaker had a home run, a triple, a single and four RBIs for the Indians (4-1). Steven Shanton, Joe Oriel, Jayden Hensley and PJ Salerno all added two hits.
