Nesquehoning police are investigating an apparent scam incident that occurred this week.

Chief Sean Smith reported on Tuesday, Sept. 29, about 11 a.m. he received a call from Joseph Greco, E. Catawissa Street, that a male attempted to scam him and then threatened him.According to the report Greco pulled into the driveway of his home Monday afternoon and was approached by a white male who was operating a pickup truck. He told Greco he was a blacktop/asphalt contractor and just finished a job and had extra blacktop. Greco said the front of his driveway needed some work because of it being cracked and broken. He said he told the man to prepare an estimate to repair that area of his driveway and he would consider it.Greco said he left the residence thinking the man would return the next day with the estimate. He said he returned a few hours later to find his entire driveway had been paved.On Tuesday the man returned, with other males, and told Greco he owed him $6,800 for the job. When Greco said he told the man he never agreed to have the work done, the man began to yell at him and threatened him. Greco said he told the man he better leave and he and the other men packed up and left.Smith said Officer Timothy Wuttke reported he believed he had seen the truck in question and the suspect at the Top Star service station getting gasoline. Wuttke went back to the station but the truck had gone. Wuttke also previously received a complaint of a man matching the description of the one at the Greco home at another residence, attempting to do the same thing.Smith alerted the communications center, which sent out an attempt to locate dispatch, to area police concerning the suspect. The suspect was driving a large black pickup truck. He was described as being about five-feet, 11-inches tall with a crew-cut and wearing a red jacket.
