On Saturday Sue Schafer was appointed the Humane Law Enforcement Officer for Tamaqua by Mayor Chris Morrison. A Humane Law Enforcement Officer investigates acts of cruelty to animals, and can arrest those who commit such acts. This position is designed to protect domestic animals from abuse and neglect. Animals that are considered domestic animals under humane law enforcement include dogs, cats, exotic pets, as well as livestock including cattle, horses, goats, chickens, etc. Pictured from left: Mayor Chris Morrison; Hurst, the mayor's dog that was adopted from a shelter and Humane Law Enforcement Officer Sue Schafer.
