Art show

The Gallery at the Tamaqua Art Center will host a reception to highlight the work of two Tamaqua area women this Friday, from 6-8 p.m., at 114 W. Broad St. Featured artists will be Lori Remmel, a photography/design teacher at Tamaqua Area Senior High School, and Gabrielle "Gabby" Smarr, a student at the Tyler School of Arts, Philadelphia. Smarr is a former student of Remmel's.

Remmel's work features the scraps of photo paper left behind by her students, while Smarr concentrates on creating beauty from items tossed away by society. Both artists are determined to make "somethings from nothings."

The reception is free and open to the public. The art work will continue to be displayed at the gallery through Oct. 16.
