4 area residents among 12 entering guilty pleas

Four area residents were among 12 who entered guilty pleas last week in the Schuylkill County court and were sentenced by President Judge William E. Baldwin

They include:Bruce Lee Smith, 24. of 332 Hazle St., Tamaqua, on a charge of theft from a motor vehicle was placed on strict probation for 23 months, pay $50 to Criminal Justice Enhancement Account (CJEA) fund and make restitution of $95 to the victim. Smith was cited by Patrolman Matthew Bynon, Tamaqua police.Phillip George Brinich, 29, of 24 E. Elm St., Tamaqua, on charges of theft by deception and criminal conspiracy; was placed on strict probation for 18 months, pay $50 to the CJEA fund and court costs. Brinich was cited by Trooper Brent Spleen for theft at 26 Catawissa St.Brian Keith Kukowski, 32, of 9 Oak St., Lansford, on a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol; was placed in the Intermediate Punishment Program (IPP) for five years with the first 30 days to be spent in the Schuylkill County Prison beginning Dec. 12, and when released to serve four years and 11 months on probation, pay a fine of $1,500, pay $300 to the Substance Abuse Education (SAE) fund, pay $100 to the Catastrophe fund, pay $50 to the CJEA fund, make restitution to Schuylkill Medical Center, and submit to mental health evaluation.His license is suspended 18 months and for the first 12 months when his license is restored he must place an ignition interlock on his car. He also must perform 10 hours of community service. On the charge of failing to have car insurance, he must pay a fine of $300 and on a charge of careless driving a fine of $25 plus $100 in costs.He was cited by Trooper Thomas Powell when stopped in Morea, West Mahanoy Township.Dennis Joseph Shaup, 29, of 62 Lakeside Avenue, Delano, on a DUI charge; was placed in the IPP for six months with the first 10 days to be spent in the county prison and the remainder on probation, pay a fine of $750, pay $100 to the SAE fund, $100 to the Catastrophe fund and $60 to Schuylkill Medical Center.His license is suspended 12 months. On a charge of improper car lighting, he was fined $25 plus $50 costs.Shaup was cited by Patrolman Robert Senape, Mahanoy Township police on the Delano Road.Shannon Marie O'Boyle, 38, Girardville, on charges of giving false report to police and receiving stolen property; was placed on strict probation for 12 months, pay $50 to CJEA fund and court costs.O'Boyle was cited by Cpl. Marving Livergood, Frackville police.Robert Renee Seligman, 21, Fayettsville, N.C., on a charge of retail theft; was placed on probation for 23 months, pay $50 to CJEA fund, court costs and make restitution of $421.75 to Wal-Mart Store, Saint Clair.Philip Richard Pearsall, 21, Lititz, on charges of robbery at Puff's Store, Shenandoah; simple assault and criminal conspiracy; was given credit for 126 days spent in the county prison and was released on probation 23 months, pay court costs.Pearsall was cited by Patrolman Jason Hayes, Shenandoah police.Francis J. Kernan, 46, no address, on a charge of fleeing from Tamaqua police; was placed on strict probation for 12 months, pay $50 to CJEA fund and court costs. On charges of failing to carry insurance on his vehicle, was fined $300 and on charges of driving an unregistered car and not activating turning signals when required fined $25 each plus $150 in costs.Michael McClain Jr., 26, Minersville, on a charge of theft; was placed on strict probation for 23 months, pay $50 to the CJEA fund and court costs.McClain was cited by Patrolman Thomas Hoban, Minersville police.Keith R. Shoup, 33, of 1039 E. Pine St., Mahanoy City, on two DUI charges; was placed in the IPP for 12 months with 30 days to be spent under house arrest with electronic monitoring and pay a fee of $12 per day; also pay fines totaling $2,000, pay $600 to the SAE fund, pay $100 to the Catastrophe fund, pay $100 to the SAE fund. His driver's license is suspended for two years.On charges of being involved in an accident causing damage, he was fined $300 and on a charge of failing have rear lights on his vehicle working properly, fined $25 plus $100 in costs.He was first cited by Patrolman Robert Senape, Mahanoy Township police. His second citation was issued by Patrolman Michael Dissinger, Mahanoy City Police, after striking the parked car of George J. Kufrovich. 108 Pine St.All defendants must also pay a $50 per month supervision fee.
