The Pleasant Valley Choral Society will host its annual Christmas concert, "The Sounds of The Season," on Dec. 12 and 13, at 3 p.m. Concerts will be held in the auditorium of Pleasant Valley High School, Rt. 209 in Brodheadsville.
During the concert, the audience will enjoy a variety of Christmas songs, from "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year," to "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" and everything in between.
Since its organization in 1984, the chorus has been under the direction of Pocono native Dorothy Mohr, who holds a master's degree in music from West Chester University. Lindsey Blundetto adds her special touch at the keyboard.
Over the years, the Pleasant Valley Choral Society has received high acclaim for its unique blend of musical standards from generations past and songs of the present. Members are drawn from communities all over the county, as well as Carbon and Northampton counties. The chorus includes music lovers ranging from high school students to grandparents.
The choral society's mission is to bring culture and entertainment to the community by way of diverse musical performances.
While the musical numbers vary from year to year, the concerts have traditions, including a candlelight procession, followed by sacred music performed in a church-like setting. The second half of the show has a party atmosphere with Christmas standards, a sing-along; guest appearance by KoKo, the chorus mascot; and an occasional surprise visitor. This year's concert features many of the songs everyone has grown up with over the years.
