DUI and other arrrests reported

Pocono Mountain Regional police reported on two driving under the influence (DUI), drug and other arrests made recently by officers.

A DUI crash occurred about 8:48 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 6, along Locust Ridge Road at Caughbaugh Road, in Monroe County. Police said Angel Velez, 28, of Long Pond, was driving a vehicle that left the road and struck a tree. Upon arrival officers spoke with Velez and detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath. He failed field sobriety tests, police said, and was transported to the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg, for a blood test. The DUI charge is pending the test results.On Saturday, Nov. 7, at 12:42 a.m. officers conducted a traffic stop along SR940, east of Interstate 380, in Pocono Summit, Tobyhanna Township, for vehicle code violations. At the stop the driver, Michael T. Burke Jr., 21, of Olyphant, Lackawanna County, was found to be under the influence. He was transported to the county DUI center for a blood test. Police also impounded the car pending a search warrant as they suspected marijuana in the vehicle. Charges are pending.On Nov. 5 about 2:26 a.m. a traffic stop was made along SR115 north of Fawn Ridge Estates for an equipment violation. The driver was identified as Clyde D. Dover, 34, of Bronx, N.Y. At the stop officers detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. A check revealed Dover's license was suspended. A search warrant was obtained and found in the vehicle was a large amount of cocaine with an estimated street value of $5,400, which was seized. Also found was a large amount of marijuana with a street value of $2,700.Dover was initially arrested for possession of a small amount of marijuana, however, based on the findings of the search, he was charged with additional drug charges and arraigned before a district judge. He was committed to the county prison in Snydersville in lieu of $105,000 bail.On Friday, Nov. 6, about 6:51 a.m. officers observed a vehicle traveling along SR940, west of Sullivan Road, in Pocono Summit, with a code violation. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver fled. The vehicle continued to accelerate and make a turn onto Short Lane without using a turn signal. The driver then turned right into a driveway before coming to a stop at the end of the driveway.The driver was identified as Michael Polanco, 19, of Charlotte, N.C. In the car with him were two teens, his brother age 17 and a sister age 13.Polanco was placed under arrest and charged with corruption of minors, fleeing and eluding police and passing in a no-passing zone. He was arraigned before a district judge and released on $10,000 unsecured bail.Officers conducted a traffic stop on Sunday, Nov. 8, about 11:22 a.m. along SR115 and Ferncrest in Tobyhanna Township, for a vehicle code violation. While speaking to the driver, identified as Nicholas Buffardi, 27, of Philadelphia, the odor of marijuana was detected coming from the vehicle. A consent search was given and with the assistance of K-9 Chase, a glass pipe with suspected marijuana was found.Buffardi will be charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
