Prothonotary's report

A total of 392 cases were started in October in the office of Carbon County Prothonotary Joann M. Behrens, according to a monthly statistical report released by the officeholder. A breakdown of the cases is as follows:

Assessment appeals,16; civil actions, 73; custody complaints, 20; district justice appeals, 2; divorce complaints, 17; ejectments, 3; mortgage foreclosure complaints, 35; protection from abuse petitions, 31; tax sale, 1; court appointment, 1; judgments, 189; and stipulations/waivers of liens, 4. The office staff also received and processed 54 applications for U.S. Passports.

Behrens reported she turned over to the Carbon County General Fund on Nov. 2 the sum of 36,288.89, representing receipts generated in the office last month. The breakdown of that funding includes: prothonotary's fees, $29,840.14; PFA Surcharge, courts, $6; PFA Surcharge, Sheriff, $4; custody fees, $900; data processing charges, $5,536.07; and interest income, $2.68.

The prothonotary also remitted $2,258.07 to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Revenue,

representing state fees collected locally, and $39.20 to the Administrative Offices of the Pennsylvania Courts, this being surcharges on new custody cases in accordance with Act 119 of 1996. Another $1,640 was deposited in the Prothonotary's Automation Fund for future automation needs in the office.
