LAMS band concert

Lehighton Area Middle School music department will be holding a band concert at 7 p.m. today.

The Fifth and Sixth Grade Band, under the direction of Thomas Weidner, will begin the program. "Centurion," composed by the late Mark Williams will be their first selection. Next, the band will perform "Chorale and March" which features various contrasting moods and tempo changes. The Fifth and Sixth Grade Band's third selection is the classic Roland Seitz march, "March Grandioso." "March Grandioso" is also the signature theme for the University of Texas Band. Fifth and Sixth Grade Band will conclude their portion of the program with the crowd pleasing, "This Old Dude" based on a very familiar folk song.The Seventh and Eighth Grade Band, under the direction of Beth Perkins, will perform many exciting selections. "Flight of the Condor" is another exciting composition from the Mark Williams library. Their next piece, "Annabel Lee," is based on the Edgar Allan Poe poem of the same name. "Minka's Sleigh Ride" is inspired by the folk music of the Ukraine and Caucus regions in the former Soviet Union. "Dracula's Tango," is an original by Jim Territo, is sure to remind everyone of the Halloween season. Next, the Seventh and Eighth grade band will perform a Mark Williams selection entitled "Turkey Drumsticks" which is sure to get everyone ready for Thanksgiving. "Southern Heritage March," based on the church hymn "Bringing in the Sheaves," will be the Seventh and Eighth Grade Band's final selection and will conclude the concert.Everyone is invited to the free concert.
