Jodi Kocher, counselor, and Debbie Heydt, nurse at Towamensing Elementary School took the student council (grades three to six) to Renee's Personal Care Home, Trachsville, on Dec. 18. They are the advisers for the group.

A musical program and Christmas treats were on the agenda.Natalie Dize, the music teacher had already taught the students most of the music in class so there was little preparation needed for the visit, said Heydt. Many of the songs they were able to sing without looking at the words.Dize accompanied the group with her keyboard and directed the music.She said they would begin with the traditional songs such as "Hark the Herald Angels Sing," and finish with the fun ones like "We Wish You a Merry Christmas."After "Silent Night" was sung, Dize turned to the guests at the home and said, "I see some of you know what language that song was originally," and asked them to share with the students. The answer was Germany where it was "Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht" in place of silent night, holy night."Rudolph" began a series of songs with motions, with the most accompanying "Twelve Days of Christmas.""When Christmas finally comes, it goes by so fast, doesn't it?" asked Dize as students raced through the final verse."We hope you enjoyed that and the children will serve the treats they brought," said Kocher. Treats consisted of cupcakes, cookies, pretzels, cheetos and soda.When guests had been served, the children had their turn eating the leftovers."They enjoy interacting with the guests and look forward to coming. I'm really proud of them. We've been coming for years," said Kocher."We tell them they are grandparents - somebody's grandma and grandpa. They should talk to them," added Heydt.They were urged to say "Hello" to Arlene Diehl, a friend of teacher Mr. Blaine House. Towamensing teacher Mrs. Diane Morgan's mother, Norma Joyce, is also a resident and enjoyed the students' performance.
