The Tamaqua Senior Citizens group meets every Thursday, at 1 p.m., at the Tamaqua Community Center, located to the rear of Boyer's Food Mart.

Last week's meeting was attended by 74 members. President Jean Yanik conducted the business session. Eleanor Roberts offered the invocation, entitled "This Special Day." A moment of silence was held in memory of Justine Yesulaitis.

Vice President Jean Behr reported sending a get well card to Francis Hinkle. Sympathy cards were sent ot Florence and John Bubel, Sandy Scott and Mary Taylor. Helen Trimmel was added to the sick list. Mary Draper was welcomed back to the club.

Reports were offered by secretary Eleanor Schmerfeld and treasurer Dolores Walck. Readings were offered by Jean Machamer.

Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The meeting room is handicap accessible.

South Ward news

The South Ward Neighborhood Committee will meet this Thursday, 7 p.m. The meeting will be held at 230 Race St.

St. Peter's

The Rev. Rodney Wells will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. The service will be followed by a congregational meeting to elect church and cemetery board members.. Sunday school will meet at 10:15 a.m. to rehearse for the Christmas musical.

Also on Sunday, the Confirmation Class will meet at 1 p.m. and the Cub Scout Den will have a Christmas party at 5 p.m.

Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, preschool Christmas program, 3-year-old class, at 10 a.m.; Wednesday, preschool Christmas program, 4-year-old class, at 10 a.m.

Christmas Eve services will be celebrated at 2, 7, and 10:30 p.m.

American Hose

Santa Claus will be making his annual visit to the American Hose Fire Company on Mauch Chunk Street, this Sunday. Santa will arrive at 1:30 p.m. Children of all ages are welcome to visit with Santa.

Owl Creek Christmas

Due to last Sunday's freezing rain, the Owl Creek Reservoir Commission postponed the second day of its annual Christmas event. The event has been rescheduled for this Sunday, from noon to 4 p.m. Children are eligible to register for free toy and bike drawings, while adults may register for free ham and turkey give aways.

In addition, there will be numerous activities, including craft making and toasting marshmallows over a campfire.

Activities will take place at the first reservoir, located on Owl Creek Road.

Girls soccer

The Tamaqua Girls' Soccer Boosters will meet today, at 6:30 p.m., at the American Hose Fire Company. The meeting will include an election of officers.

All adults interested in supporting the team are welcome to attend.

Flu clinic

A free H1N1 flu clinic will be held from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. this Thursday, at the Tamaqua Family Practice, 34 S. Railroad St. Vaccine will be available for those over the age of 6 months.

No phone calls please. Just arrive at the center on that date, between the listed hours.

Class of 1984

The Tamaqua Area Class of 1984 will meet this Thursday, at 7 p.m., at the Hang Loose Pub, 300 E. Broad St. This meeting was rescheduled from Dec. 13. All class members are welcome to attend.
