A charge of driving under the influence (DUI) is pending against a Schuylkill County driver following a one-vehicle crash that occurred about 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 2.
State police at Schuylkill Haven said Phillip E. Tobash, 50, of Pottsville, was operating a 2006 Hyundai Limited westbound on SR901 (Gordon Nagle Trail), just south of Cressona, when he veered onto the north berm. The vehicle traveled about 120 feet before striking several large rocks with the front passenger tire. After initial impact the vehicle traveled 90 feet before going up an embankment which caused the vehicle to roll over onto its roof.
The vehicle then spun clockwise and traveled about 70 feet while on its roof traveling uphill and coming to final rest in the westbound lane facing west.
Tobash told troopers a deer had entered the road in front of him causing him to leave the road. Troopers said Tobash had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage about him. He was taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center South, Pottsville, for treatment of a minor injury and for a blood test. The DUI charge is pending the test results.
Damages were disabling to the vehicle.
